The holiday season is in full swing, and the next few weeks will bring lots of opportunity for excess alcohol consumption and intoxication.  Let’s face it, after the year we’ve had, I don’t think anyone would blame you, except possibly your liver!

Your liver is the primary organ that is in charge of detoxifying your body from toxic substances, alcohol often being chief among them.  Having a game plan to help boost your body’s ability to detox from all of the festivities is a great way to set your liver up for success.

Here are some of my favorite ways to keep your liver happy and still be able to enjoy your holiday refreshments:

During the process of alcohol detoxification, your liver utilizes many B vitamins and minerals such as zinc in order to help your body properly rid the alcohol in your system.

This transient deficiency in B vitamins and core minerals along with dehydration attribute to the not-so-fun symptoms we experience as a hangover.  Ensuring proper supplementation with B vitamins and other vital minerals that are depleted is important to support your body’s ability to properly detoxify from the alcohol you consume.

Thankfully your liver just so happens to have the greatest regenerative capacity of any organ in the body so it can do the hard work day after day to help you end 2020 with a bang.  There are many liver loving herbs that boost liver regeneration even more.

Of the many liver supportive herbs that exist, my two favorites are Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) and Milk Thistle (Silybum marianum), which have proven themselves to be very effective at liver regeneration and detoxification.

Last but definitely not least is glutathione.  If you’ve ever received one of our Immune Booster IVs then you probably have heard of or felt the amazing detoxifying power of glutathione.

Glutathione is a naturally occurring molecule made up of three amino acids and is our body’s master antioxidant, meaning it can scavenge for free radicals all throughout your body and can even cross the blood brain barrier.

Our natural glutathione stores deplete over time and especially when there’s a lot of cleaning up to do, so it is very important to think about replenishing your glutathione stores.  This can be done directly via oral glutathione supplementation, intravenous supply, or by supplementing the precursors needed for glutathione production such as N-acetylcysteine (NAC).

Here at AIM, we have all of these liver supportive options available for you and properly trained staff that can advise you on how to effectively utilize them.

If you’re interested in receiving guidance on a  detoxification protocol or just looking for ways to show your liver some love this holiday season, get scheduled with an AIM provider or stop in for an IV therapy session.

Otherwise, we hope you have a wonderful holiday season and we wish you all health and happiness in the coming year!
